“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
As spring settles in, the energy in our schools shifts. Students (and adults) start to feel the pull of longer days, warmer weather, and the promise of summer. With that comes the classic case of cabin fever—restlessness, excitement, and a renewed sense of urgency to finish the year strong.
For superintendents, this time of year is both invigorating and challenging. The finish line for the school year is in sight, yet there’s still so much to do—budgets to finalize, staffing decisions to make, graduation preparations to oversee, and countless other responsibilities that demand attention. It’s a season of balancing leadership with endurance, ensuring that the work you do today sets the stage for success tomorrow.
Leading a school district is no small task. The weight of decisions, the constant push for improvement, and the responsibility of shaping the future for students can feel overwhelming. But it’s also deeply rewarding. Every policy you champion, every conversation you have with a student, teacher, or community member, every decision you make—it all matters. Your leadership impacts lives in ways you may never fully see, but rest assured, it is felt.
Your advocacy for students, staff, and communities does not go unnoticed. In the whirlwind of spring, take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come this year. Celebrate the wins, no matter how small. Lean on your colleagues for support. And remember, leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about creating the conditions for others to thrive.
As you navigate the challenges and opportunities of this season, know that your work is invaluable. Thank you for your dedication, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to education.
Here’s to a strong finish to the school year!
