Candidate Statement
Across the state of Minnesota, we have great district and school leaders leading great Minnesota schools. As a leader of leaders, I always seek to uplift and recognize the strengths and assets of those who serve our students. At the same time, we face great challenges as school leaders. We all need to grow our skills and leadership levers to keep moving the needle on student learning and school support.
Thank you for considering me as MASA President-Elect. In addition to now having served as Superintendent for seven years in Hopkins Public Schools, I also serve in the following ways:
- MASA Board Director
- AMSD Legislative Board Director
- Education Evolving Board Director (student-centered policy org)
- Black Men Teach, St. David’s Center, and Vocal Essence Board Director
Prior to my Superintendent role, I have served as high school principal in Anoka-Hennepin, Director of Principal Leadership for Washington, D.C. Public Schools, and Associate Superintendent in Monterey Peninsula, northern California. These previous roles, within and outside of Minnesota, broadened my knowledge and leadership range. This national perspective strengthens my preparedness for the role of MASA President-Elect.
I lead with collaboration, love, humility, and a fierce advocacy for student learning and adult support blended with accountability. While the slate of candidates for President-Elect is amazing, I would surely appreciate your vote. Thank you for your consideration!

I am incredibly grateful for the work of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators and honored to be nominated alongside four outstanding candidates for MASA’s president-elect position in 2024-25 – Dr. Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed and Dr. Stacie Stanley. I am asking for your support and vote because I want to serve MASA members in this leadership capacity as we all serve Minnesota together.
As president-elect, I will help continue MASA’s work through the lens of what’s optimal for students in Minnesota as well as the adults who educate and lead in service to them. We, as an organization, must continue to advocate for the policies and resources that are essential to effective public education throughout the state, in both greater Minnesota and the metro area. We must also continue to provide valuable professional development and growth opportunities and offer the support necessary for leaders to be the courageous decision-makers upon which our students and families rely. To this role, I bring experience and expertise in:
- Culturally Proficient Leadership
- Evidence-Based Decision-Making
- Board leadership
I began my teaching career at high schools in Stevens Point and Marshfield, Wisconsin. After moving to Minnesota to obtain my Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in Culture and Teaching, I taught at an alternative high school and then went on to hold leadership roles in Bloomington Public Schools and Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Schools. I currently serve as the assistant superintendent in Bloomington.
MASA is truly a leading voice in public education, which recognizes and believes that each child deserves an education rooted in high expectations and free from discrimination and bias. As an equity-dedicated practitioner who consistently collaborates with the community to identify barriers in our system and open doors, I would uphold that value as a leader on the MASA Board.
I’ve served on the MASA Board as a Region 9 Central Office Representative and a member of the Legislative Committee for the past three years, while also representing MASA on the Early Childhood Longitudinal Data System Governing Board. Additionally, I currently serve as the President of the Alumni Board for the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota, and on the Hennepin County Children’s Mental Health Collaborative Board and Executive Committee. In each of these roles I prioritize data-based decision making that’s focused on the needs of the members and those they serve through their organizations.
I am incredibly proud to be a part of MASA and honored to be nominated for the president-elect role for 2024-25. Thank you for voting.

Candidate Statement
Greetings MASA Colleagues,
I am honored to be nominated for president-elect alongside my esteemed colleagues. MASA has been a critical aspect of my development as an administrator. Whether attending conferences to build my leadership acumen as a principal, director and associate superintendent, or more recently as a superintendent, I have appreciated the many thought leaders and mentors that I have and continue to learn from.
It has been a privilege to serve on the executive development committee for several years and as the 2023-2024 chair. I have also enjoyed offering master classes and facilitating the MASA Women in Leadership series. It was an honor to receive MASA’s 2020 Central Office Leader of Year – Metro Area award.
Throughout my career I have worked diligently to ensure doors are opened for each and every student; especially our most marginalized. As president of MASA I will bring that same dedication and passion to our organization.
I believe in the power of collective advocacy and appreciate this key benefit for the members of MASA. As district leaders we are uniquely positioned to bring about learning enhancements such as competency based learning and a vision for a profile of a Minnesota graduate. This will ensure our youth are truly prepared for the next quarter century and beyond.
It goes without saying that our districts must be funded in an equitable manner that allows us to advance innovative learning opportunities including CTE and STEAM, as well as maintain safety and security efforts in our schools.
MASA members have much to be proud of, and I would be honored to serve as the president-elect to help build on the progress for our future.
